Spanish Emphasis
Graduating Spring 2023
I am a Language and International Health major with an emphasis in Spanish, a minor in Psychology and a Cluster of Life Sciences. I am pursuing a career as a Physician’s Assistant. I choose this major because it allowed me to continue my knowledge and proficiency of the Spanish language, while taking the prerequisites needed to go to Physician’s Assistant school. This major was unique in that it allowed me to balance science, culture, and pre-professional health studies. I started studying Spanish at a very young age, but my passion for it developed in high school when I would travel to the Dominican Republic on mission trips with my church. There I was actually able to communicate with the Dominicans and apply what I was learning in school. The summer of 2022 I was able to study abroad in Costa Rica. There I lived with a host mom who spoke only Spanish; I was fully immersed in the culture and language. My experience in Costa Rica made me a confident and proficient Spanish speaker. Later in college I became passionate about pursuing a career in the health field. Ultimately, I want to be able to use Spanish to communicate with patients as a Physician’s Assistant. There is a great need for health care workers who can communicate in Spanish and this dual major has equipped me for both.
